How to Delete Your Threads Profile Without Deleting Instagram
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Independent guide, not affiliated with Threads (Meta)
Threads profiles are connected to Instagram, but Meta now lets you delete your Threads profile on its own, keeping your Instagram account. You can also deactivate Threads to hide it temporarily.
Note the reverse: deleting your Instagram account deletes the linked Threads profile too.
At a glance
- Time required: About 3 minutes
- Grace period: 30 days after requesting deletion

Before you delete
- Download your Threads data via Settings > Account > Download your information.
- Decide between deactivating and deleting; deactivating keeps everything.
- Check fediverse sharing — posts shared to other servers may persist there.
How to delete your Threads profile
- Open Threads and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu (two lines) in the top corner and open Settings.
- Tap Account, then Deactivate or delete profile.
- Choose Delete profile and confirm.
- Your Threads profile is scheduled for deletion; log back in within 30 days if you change your mind.
Menus change often. If a button has moved, use the search box in the app's settings or the official help link above.
Deactivate instead
Choosing Deactivate profile hides your Threads profile, posts and replies until you reactivate by logging back in. Your Instagram account is unaffected either way.

No. You can delete Threads separately. Deleting Instagram, however, also deletes Threads.
Can I recover my Threads profile?
Yes, within 30 days of requesting deletion by logging in.
What happens to replies I left on others’ posts?
They are removed together with your profile.
Are posts shared to the fediverse deleted?
Threads sends deletion requests to other servers, but copies on those servers may not all be removed.
